Hello, I am Shuyang Fan (Quix), a serial entrepreneur & full-stack engineer who enjoys tinkering with technology. I graduated in 2024 with a Master of Engineering in Electronic and Information Engineering from Imperial College London, achieving First Class Honours(2020-2024). Light Zai Robot - Full-Stack Robotics Experience

Robotics & AI

At Light Robotics (Shenzhen), I self-proposed and led the development of the Light Zai Robot's full-stack solution (major in high-level AI, software and hardware, based on High-Torque Hi Robot), completed over two months. The robot possesses general dialogue, memory, and motion capabilities, and can autonomously execute actions such as dancing and walking according to context, while listening, speaking, and interacting with multiple people. It also exhibits appropriate social behaviors, such as looking at the person it is speaking to when appropriate. In addition, I independently built a Unity-based robot simulator, a navigation data generation simulator, my own codebase for training a Vision-Language-Action model, an agentic flow framework, and I was responsible for the GPU cluster infrastructure (application layer) that manages large-scale GPUs for the entire team. This was my first professional experience joining a company.

SimpleTex - World Leading Formula Recognition Platform

Starting from my second year at Imperial College (September 2022), I built the world's largest formula editing and recognition platform. SimpleTex has over 1M+ users globally, processes 100M+ API calls per year, and is used by 200+ universities and institutions. Back in 2022, Mathematical formula recognition used to be one of the most challenging & unsolved problems in computer vision. I set out to see whether I could develop a state-of-the-art solution at the undergraduate stage while creating a user application that truly delivers value, similar to Mathpix and I achieved this goal without any marketing spend. Today, SimpleTex also supports PDF recognition and a Chinese/mathematical Braille conversion program, which I believe provides significant social value.

Indie APP/Website Development — 5 years, 1M+ users

Full-Stack Development

I am an indie full-stack developer, proficient in frontend and backend design, UI/UX, databases, microservices, and distributed systems, with over 5 years of development experience. I have built and launched multiple successful applications across different domains. During high school, I self-taught development and AI, and created a photo-based question search and learning app that became Asia's most popular A-level learning application, generating ¥1M+ per year and laying the economic foundation for later projects. It still ranks highly in SEO for the "拍照搜题" keywords. Since then, I have created more apps covering English vocabulary learning, forums, online education platforms, and various utility tools. During university, the SimpleTex API platform and AI inference framework were solely developed by me, with infrastructure supporting over 1M users. In 2025, I independently developed Awoo Food Diary and MBTI Spark, two AI-driven applications that provided me with valuable experience in the LLM era. This comprehensive full-stack experience—from initial concept and design to development, deployment, and operations—has given me deep insight into the entire software product lifecycle and laid a solid foundation for building AI-driven applications in the future.

I am also interested in content creation, having established over 50+ videos and currently have over 113,000+ subscribers around the globe (Youtube + Bilibili + Xigua + Tiktok). My content focuses on making complex technical concepts accessible to everyone, covering topics like Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), Kalman Filtering, Monte Carlo Tree Search, PID control algorithms, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) design. I found Kayphoon Studio and built 4 indie games that collectively achieved 200K+ downloads across multiple platforms with 2 of my high school teammates since 2019. I was mainly responsible for game design, visual effect design, Unity game development, publishing, testing, and business partnerships. I also independently developed attribution algorithms, user data analytics, and data mining systems for growth and user acquisition. Our published games include Juicy Beach, Rolling Cube, Highway Escape, and Chaos Factory(not released), available on WeChat Mini Games, Google Play, Steam, TapTap, 5799, and 4399 platforms. I believe my deep understanding of game systems has significantly enhanced my design capabilities, artistic aesthetics, and insights into user behavior and market dynamics.

Aerospace Engineering Journey — Amateur Rocketry KOL

During high school, I delved deep into rocket engines, ramjet engines, and computational fluid dynamics, independently deriving and developing a series of results. I shared some of these findings through videos on the Turing-G channel. In 2019, I released Simple Rocket Designer, earning my first software copyright; it is an independently developed software using PyQt5 and Python that implements fourth-order Runge-Kutta methods for rocket engine internal ballistics simulation. It remains one of the best computational tools in the amateur rocketry community, featuring the only algorithm supporting two-phase flow internal ballistics simulation. This experience significantly strengthened my physics and mathematics foundation.

Full-Stack Embedded Systems Engineering — 9+ years experience

Embedded Systems

In avionics, I independently developed a series of projects including high-altitude atmospheric probes and rocket altitude-controlled parachute deployment systems. I also independently completed several hardware products such as access control systems, laser photoelectric tachometers, and Arduino programmers, some of which were successfully sold via Taobao as my earliest profitable projects in high school. I open-sourced Q-Flight, a quadrotor drone with fully independent intellectual property built on the STM32F4 microcontroller and FreeRTOS, featuring self-developed SINS (Strapdown Inertial Navigation System) and ARHS (Attitude and Heading Reference System). The project was developed entirely from scratch—from flight control to remote control, from hardware structure to industrial design—and also includes a PyQt5-based ground station and Unity3D flight simulation software. These full-stack aerospace electronics projects significantly strengthened my mathematics and electronic engineering foundations, laying the groundwork for my future development.

Conclusion

From high school to university, my exploration has spanned across aerospace, electronics, artificial intelligence, social media, gaming, software development, and many other fields. Through both failures and successes, these experiences have become invaluable treasures in my life journey. My exploration in life, philosophy, humanities, and history has strengthened my spiritual foundation, fostering a more complete personality and the courage to face life's challenges. Through years of continuous deep cultivation in different directions, I am grateful that under my efforts, each of my projects has achieved top rankings in their respective small domains, which has also given me a deeper understanding of myself and the world.

For the future, although I am still young and relatively inexperienced, this does not prevent me from embracing upcoming challenges with the spirit of "harboring grand ambitions while maintaining humility and resilience." As Heidegger said: "Man dwells poetically upon this earth." Pursuing my dreams while achieving a state of natural ease, living joyfully and naturally on this planet is my life creed, with interest and passion being the greatest driving force and the answer to everything.
